Deep Pockets
We’ve seen some demand from customers for their own consoles and controllers since the release of the PlayStation 5. As we discovered during the Sony PlayStation 5 breakdown, the side plates of the PlayStation 5 are readily detachable, thus many prospective purchasers are curious as to whether Sony would use third-party firms to produce license plates or create their own.
One such third-party business, SUP3R5, has gone a step further by offering PlayStation 5 systems and matching the controllers with colour palettes reminiscent of the PlayStation 2.

Many users find the Sony PlayStation 5’s sleek white design to be sufficient, but some prefer to personalize their console. Since the release of the PS5 in 2020, many fans have used stickers to personalize their hardware because Sony doesn’t officially sell PS5s in Various Colors. Through the use of decals, controllers and consoles can sport a variety of new aesthetics. Some PlayStation fans even come up with creative and intriguing designs.
In the past, a fan of Mortal Kombat 11 designed a concept PS5 console and controller based on the game. Another PlayStation 5 owner tried to give his device a distinctive look, this time with a more nostalgic theme, and strayed from making the console game-based. The PlayStation 5 that HistoricalAd5106, a Reddit user, modified has a sleek, all-black design and a side-mounted PS2-inspired logo.
Since almost every console player was thinking about the PlayStation 5, SUP3R5 had little trouble grabbing everyone’s attention by introducing its limited-edition custom PS5 that pays respect to the PS2. However, we do mean it when we say “limited edition,” since Men’s Gear notes that SUP3R5 only intended to provide 304 consoles and 500 bespoke controllers in the same colour scheme.

When pre-orders for SUP3R5’s retro PS5 started on Friday, January 8, 2021, they rapidly sold out. According to VGC, they sold out in 20 minutes and the only reason SUP3R5’S website couldn’t handle the volume of customers was that it crashed. Even worse, several of those individuals claim they were charged for a console even though they never received confirmation that they had made a reservation.
Unfortunately, from there, things got out of hand. Updates to the VGC post mentioned above have shown that SUP3R5 swiftly cancelled all orders for the customized PS5 and controller. The crew “began receiving genuine threats to their safety,” according to a statement from the corporation, which served as the impetus for the cancellation.
There are a few things to remember: The Dual Sense’s manufacturer’s warranty will be nullified during the customisation process since builders would have to totally remove the device. Since the PS5 won’t be taken apart, your console warranty will remain in effect. Although SUP3R5 does not provide a warranty of its own, it guarantees that it will try to address “functional or aesthetic faults linked to the retro conversion.”
If you’re concerned that those 300 unusual PS5s with PS2-themed designs would be quickly snapped up by resellers, SUP3R5 claims it’s taking measures to address the issue. Orders for consoles will be restricted to one per home, while orders for controllers will be restricted to two units per family in addition to “security measures.”

SUP3R5 faced a challenging scenario that had an unpleasant outcome. It’s unknown what the future holds when pre-orders sold out nearly instantly, as was predicted, or after the process was fully stopped and their Twitter account was taken down.
Even while there have been rumours that supplies would start to refill “early” in the new year, there has been no news on when the PS5 consoles will be available in UK retailers.
